Since 1972, when President Nixon highlighted Integrated Pest Managemnet (IPM) as a part of his proposed environmental program, biopesticide use has become more and more popular.
In the U.S., many biopesticides are exempt from maximum residue level (MRL) requirements due to their lower risk profile compared to conventional pesticides.
But for exporters, this creates confusion and raises important questions:
• Will U.S. MRL exemptions be recognized abroad?
• Where can a country’s list of MRL exemptions be found—and how can new biopesticides be added?
• Who are the competent authorities regulating biopesticides in each market?
👉 Our latest Global Insight provides background on this growing issue and links to a detailed case study, made possible by the Washington State Specialty Crop Block Grant Program. Together, they answer key questions and outline how biopesticides are regulated across eight key U.S. export markets.
