Scott Somerville joined BCI’s Sacramento office in April 2025 as a Market Development Manager. His duties include program planning and implementation, grant writing and administration, and financial management related to export assistance programs.
Scott graduated from the University of California, Davis in 2025 with a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics. His research at UC Davis centered on California agriculture including topical economic issues in the dairy, tree nut, and strawberry industries. Scott also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Glasgow and a Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Reading, both in the United Kingdom.
Scott’s life and work is entrenched in food and farming. He grew up on a Scottish dairy farm, sold feed, seed and fertilizer to farmers for a leading agricultural merchant, and worked as a data analyst specializing in the global crop protection market for a market research firm. Scott is an enthusiastic gardener and home cook.
