Last week, BCI’s Alinne Oliveira and Aya Stockton attended the 56th Session of the Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues (CCPR) in Santiago, Chile. The meeting, hosted by China and co-hosted by Chile, gathered regulators, scientists, and industry leaders to advance science-based international food standards.
Alinne also spoke on an IICA-hosted panel exploring global MRL harmonization, alongside Cristián Muño, President of the Vegetable Producers & Exporters Association, and Anna Applefield Gore, Executive Director of the Minor Use Foundation.
Why MRLs matter: Codex MRLs (maximum residue levels) are key to enabling international trade, ensuring food safety, and supporting sustainable agriculture. Yet, differences across regions pose challenges for exporters.
